WWF Earth Hour 2025 – Lights Off. Voices On.
On March 22, 2025, at exactly 8:30 PM local time, the 19th Earth Hour organized by WWF will take place – one of the world’s largest climate and environmental protection initiatives. Millions of people, cities, and businesses will switch off their lights for one hour to send a powerful message against climate change and for a sustainable future.
Since the first Earth Hour in 2007 in Sydney, the initiative has grown into a global movement. Last year, more than 550 cities and municipalities in Germany took part. In light of rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and dwindling natural resources, it’s more important than ever to stand up for the protection of our planet.
In 2025, it’s not just about turning off the lights – this time, it's also about raising our voices and sending a clear signal.
Why Earth Hour 2025 is Special
This year’s Earth Hour carries the motto: “Lights off. Voices on. For a living planet.” In addition to switching off lights, WWF is calling on people to join in collective singing activities to raise awareness for climate and environmental protection.
Whether at home with friends and family, as a band in your rehearsal space, or with hundreds of people in front of a landmark – singing together aims to unite people and demonstrate our determination to take action.
In Berlin, the central Earth Hour event will take place at the Brandenburg Gate. Starting at 7:45 PM, choirs, musicians, and visitors will gather on Pariser Platz to sing together. Accompanied by a live band and supported by pedal-powered screens from the Wheel Divas, the event will become a special experience with a strong message for climate protection.
But you don’t need to be in the capital to participate. Whether you’re a private individual, business, or city – everyone can join! You can register your own singing event or take part in one of many local actions. More information can be found on the official WWF website.
Why Your Participation Matters
Earth Hour is more than a symbol. It reminds us that climate protection is a global task that requires bold political decisions and active involvement from all of us. Especially now, as Germany negotiates a new governing coalition, it is crucial to ensure that environmental and climate protection are firmly embedded in political decisions.
“As the climate crisis creates new realities right at our doorstep, political debate is often still too far removed,” emphasizes Viviane Raddatz, Head of Climate at WWF Germany. “Earth Hour is an opportunity to show that we are determined to stand up for a livable future.”
